For the 2K Walk & the Poem Competition

You are walking to involve your school in an important health issue that affects thousands of girls in Scotland every day. And before the walk, we want to give pupils the opportunity to capture their thoughts, imagination and speak about periods unashamed through a Poem Competition.

Walk To Give Her A Voice

is a united front and wellbeing campaign to commemorate world Menstrual Hygiene Day happening on May 28th

This isn’t just for girls; boys get to join too! Why? Because we want to let everyone know that they can join in the awareness and conversation about things that affect girls and women.

You are walking to involve your school in an important health issue that affects thousands of girls in Scotland every day. 10% of girls in the UK have been unable to afford period products; 19% have changed to a less suitable product due to cost. The inability to afford or access menstrual products, and lack of education can lead to missed school days, lowered self-esteem, and hindered opportunities for these young individuals.

This natural phenomenon often arises with a plethora of physical and mental health issues, some of these issues include depression and anxiety that overlap with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS).

Once upon a time, the subject of menstruation and periods was a hush-hush never-to-be-spoken-about topic, but this in turn created stigmatisation, lack of awareness of issues that could arise concerning periods and most importantly – girls experiencing preventable health issues.

Schools are embarking on this Health and Charity Walk to create a positive impact in our schools, community and ultimately improve menstrual/emotional well-being.

Participate and get a certificate of recognition for joining positive periods and wellbeing.

The walk is in collaboration with NHS Wellbeing festival, Aberdeenshire Council. LLA, Sports Aberdeen and other charities. We want to normalise the conversation, so let’s walk and talk about it
