What will be involved in the training for the Champs?
There will be a virtual training and an in-person training where champs get to meet up before the day of the walk. Maximum of 2 hours is required for this. You will receive information about this after registration.
What are the time commitments for Champs?
The time commitment varies, the shifts are around 4-6 hours including the day of the walk. Depending on your role and availability. We’ll work with your schedule to ensure you have a role that fits your availability.
Will there be training provided for the Champs?
Yes, we will conduct a volunteer Champs orientation session before the event to provide information about your specific role, answer any questions, and ensure you are well-prepared for your responsibilities.
What happens if I miss the training event?
All Champs need attend at least one of the training session the Walk to Give Her a Voice event – it’s the only way to ensure everyone will have the best experience possible and know everything they need to the the best Champ they can be!
Can I bring a friend/family member to the training or on the walk?
We would love to welcome everyone along on Walk to Give Her a Voice and to the training, but unfortunately, unless your friend or family member is a fellow Champ or your registered carer, you will not be able to bring them.
The walk is free, so you can direct friends/family members who are not Champs to register if they wish to be part of the walk. https://walk4her.theperiodplace.co.uk/
Can I just show up on the day?
As lovely as it would be to have you along, sadly not.
All our Champs are asked to attend special training days, which are a must to help our Champs ready to carry out their roles effectively. Through these training sessions, Champs have an insight into the Walk and The Period Place as a charity. Champs also gain knowledge about the event. These sessions are also where every Champs will find out all they need to know about their role on the day.
If, due to unforeseen circumstances, you miss the session please contact us by emailing walk4her@theperiodplace.co.uk
What should I wear on the event day?
All our Champs will also receive a branded t-shirt. If the weather is wet, it might be worthwhile to wear a waterproof jacket over the t shirt to ensure you keep dry throughout your shift. It may also be worth bringing extra layers to keep you warm throughout the day.
You can match this with something comfortable such as trousers, jeans or leggings would be just as great.
When do I get my Champs T-shirt or uniform?
You will receive it on the in-person training day.
Do I have to wear my uniform?
Yes, please make sure you arrive for the walk ready to go and dressed in your Champs uniform – hopefully you will feel proud to do so! If you arrive without your uniform, you may not be allowed into the venue as it is essential that all staff, walkers and spectators know who our volunteers are and can identify them across the route.
What should I do if my uniform is lost or stolen?
We believe that our Champs will keep their T-shirts safe, but if it is lost or stolen don’t panic – please contact walk4her@theperiodplace.co.uk with your size requirements and the team will bring additional t-shirts on the day which can be borrowed. Unfortunately, as we are a small charity, we do not have the budget to replace items except on exceptional cases.
What should I do if my uniform doesn’t fit me properly?
We want you to feel as comfortable as possible on event day!
If you have a problem, please contact walk4her@theperiodplace.co.uk and where possible we will swap the uniform for a different size. Unfortunately, we do only have limited additional stock so the best thing to do is order a larger size than usual if there is any uncertainty on sizing at all.
Can I wear my uniform when I’m not on shift?
Yes, the T-shirt is yours to keep and can be worn whenever you like outside event days. It’s designed to be a memento of your time with us as a Champ! We just ask that before the walk you keep your uniform safe and clean.
On event day your t-shirt should only be worn when you’re proudly on duty as a Champ and travelling to and from the walk event. Please also remember that when in uniform you are representing the walk to give her a voice and your fellow Champs– so no naughtiness please!
What happens to my uniform if I can no longer volunteer?
We will be very sad if this happens, but we do understand that these things happen. If you do have to give up your place as a Champ and you are unable to volunteer at the walk, please email us at walk4her@theperiodplace and we may ask you to send us back the uniform.
What should I do if I have a dietary requirement?
All Champs are asked for their dietary requirements after they have come on board as Champs. The walk will aim to cater for everyone’s needs on training day as well as event day itself.
What time do I need to arrive for my shift?
Champs shifts start time is the time that walk day briefing will begin. Please make sure you are checked-in and are raring to go by this time. For the day of the walk, should be 10am. This may vary depending on your role, The Volunteer manager will let you know.
